The K to 12 Program is an official and correct term of our curriculum that refers to DepEd's flagship "Enchanced K to 12 Basic Education Program" as what Department of Education Secretary Armin Luistro explained, considering of some other terms of said program abroad, like.... K+12 or K-12.
Sec. Luistro said, "Under the new K to 12 program, Kindergarten is compulsory as being stated in R. A. 10157: elementary education has six years; junior high school, 4 years (Grades 7 to 10); and senior high school has 2 years (Grades 11 to 12)".
According to DepEd chief, the curriculum is designed as a continuum using the spiral approach and also ladderized for greater mobility from one grade level to another.
In Grade 1 and Grade 7 (first year high school) pupils/students use their mother tongue in Spiral Approach that would mark the implementation of the new curriculum.
For me, Chief Luistro shall be remembered - of his correct and unique term coined to call for our new curriculum, the K to 12. I hope that this program shall not only count of its term itself but shall count most to the spiral change of an enhanced curriculum in the 21st century.
